Amber Montoya

Production Designer

Amber Montoya joins Visual Terrain as our third San Diego State University alumna (along with Senior Designer Christina Martin and founder Lisa Passamonte Green). Amber has a Bachelors Degree in Dramatic Arts with an emphasis in design and technology, and specialized training in lighting design for the theater.’’ She will work as a Production Designer with Associate Principal Steeve Vajk.

Prior to becoming a member of the VT team, Amber worked as a theatrical electrician for IATSE Local #122 in San Diego. She also worked as head electrician for the Timken Museum of Art in San Diego.

What makes Amber unique among Visual Terrain’s employees over the years, is that she is also a former Registered Behavioral Technician, and worked to implement behavior plans for her patients in a therapeutic environment. We think this makes her uniquely suited to manage the occasional chaos of light design projects, as well as to better understand our clients, our vendors, and each other.

Amber’s background also includes working as a quality control technician, technical director, production supervisor, and entertainment technician. She can program ETC EOS and GrandMA2 consoles.

Amber lives in San Diego, California, where she enjoys sewing, embroidery, cake decorating, ceramics and is about to learn how to loom.
