The USS Iowa is a retired battleship currently located at Berth 87 at the Port of Los Angeles in San Pedro, California. She was active during World War II and the Korean War, and carried President Franklin D. Roosevelt across the Atlantic in 1943. She now serves as a public museum and is open to the public as the USS Iowa Museum. Visual Terrain was thrilled to create the lighting design for the Lost at Sea exhibit in 2018. We were fortunate to be able to work with George Wiktor and the Pacific Battleship Center to realize the design.
Working on an actual battleship was a challenge. The low ceilings, narrow spaces, and limited electrical access all created a unique design environment. It gave us a heightened appreciation for the men and women who lived and worked on the Iowa daily, especially during wartime!
Visual Terrain Principal Lighting Designer Steven Young showcased his ability to seamlessly integrate lighting and media in several displays within the exhibit.
