Designer Profile: Rose Malone

Name: Rose Malone

Title: Lighting & Production Designer

Years Worked at VT: 1 year and 4 months

Favorite Project: [We worked on a municipal project] Design Competition. It was my favorite because I was working collaboratively with a local artist, which is really amazing. It was a fully rendered 3D model with video content on it. It meshed the design and technical aspects of lighting into one project.

Funniest or most memorable memory at Visual Terrain: When we all went to MeowWolf and were clambering around the exhibit, finding each other and then parting our separate ways. We got to see our different styles and how we interact with art. It was truly an adventure.

Favorite Aspect of Lighting Design: It’s probably the collaboration. There’s something fun about collaborating on something ethereal. It’s fun to be able to create with something you can’t touch. Lighting has a very definitive effect on how you feel about a space.

What or Who Inspires You: I mean, I get largely inspired by the world. I love just seeing different perspectives. It’s fun to explore different places and different atmospheres and seeing a different perspective on things.

Fun Fact About Yourself that No One Knows: I can play the banjo! I can play a lot of instruments. The ukulele, the mandolin, and I’m learning how to play guitar.

What is your favorite part about being a lighting designer? That you get to travel and meet a bunch of different people and work in a lot of different environments.
